5 on FRIDAY: July 4-6, 2014


Happy Fourth of July tomorrow!! Since the fun starts early in the morning, we thought we better put this out today so you can plan your weekend and not miss a thing!

1) We have several July 4th parades and celebrations happening around Washington County. Find the right one for you!

2) Hot Nights Cool Tunes starts up this Saturday. Live music in Downtown Brenham featuring Texas Unlimited Band. They play a good mix of rock, 80s and country. Free to the public, there's plenty of parking, space for you and your lawn chair, drinks, food and fun!

3) Round Top Festival Institute has concerts at 3:30 and 7:30 performed by this year's musical festival students. These are very talented musicians - the music and venue never disappoints! Get tickets.

4) Farmers and Artisans Market at the depot in Burton is Saturday morning.

5) Monthly Market Day is Sunday in Downtown Brenham from 11-4. Support your local farmer and gather up fresh produce and other goodies before heading home. Home Sweet Farm Market

Free Music in Downtown Brenham


Hot nights are coming quickly and so is the fun of our music concert series in Downtown Brenham! Every Saturday night in July we round up our chairs and gather downtown for great music, food, drinks, a car show and socializing with a thousand of our closest friends. :-)

Hot Nights, Cool Tunes is a fun, and free, event that Brenham has held for 10 years now and it just keeps getting better and bigger each year. There's always plenty of free parking, space to park your chairs, a variety of tunes to keep your feet tapping, and yummy food to keep your stomach happy.

July 5 - Texas Unlimited Band: Variety of rock and roll, 80s and country
July 12 - Matchmaker Band: 10 piece show band playing motown, soul, funk, and dance

There's not a lot of events happening this weekend, but we're not short on fun! Here are some suggestions...


1) Live music galore on Friday night - Nathan's BBQ, The Kenney Store, and a free praise concert at the park! Saturday night features a Christian rock concert at Silver Wings as a benefit to local churches and Still Creek Ranch's ministry, Restore Her (rescuing young girls out of human trafficking).

2) Round Top Festival Institute has orchestral type music being played by its students this Saturday. Get tickets to enjoy a wonderful display of talent!

3) Visit Chappell Hill Lavender Farm. They have a cute gift shop and fields of lavender.

4) Tour the historic 1914 Burton Cotton Gin. Tours are given Fri & Sat at 10am and 2pm. This gin is known as the oldest continually operating gin in America!

5) Go geocaching! Our "Birthplace of Texas GeoTour" is ongoing, ready and waiting for you to find all the caches. Don't know what geocaching is? Learn about it!

4th of July Celebration - Burton

Burton, TX
Fun for ALL! Food and refreshments available for purchase all day. Sponsored by the American Legion Post 242 and Auxilliary. 11-1 enjoy BBQ pork & beef, at noon there will be an auction, from 1-5 there will be bingo, and at 5 there will be cake walks and raffle drawings. Meal tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids (6-12), FREE for kids under 6.


4th of July Celebration - Independence

Trail ride at 2pm. Parade at 5pm with street dance immediately following.

The best small town Fourth of July celebration anywhere! Festivities begin at 10am on the square. At 10:30, the historic cannon booms and the parade begins. After the parade, come on down to the Rifle Association Hall for great BBQ, music and fun. A public dance will follow from 4:00 - 7:30.

4) Juneteenth Celebration - Friday night you can enjoy a free concert at Fireman's Park by Raa-Raa Zydeco Allstarz Band. Saturday starts with a parade in Downtown Brenham at 10:30am and festivities at Fireman's Park the rest of the day and evening.

5) Historical presentations at Fanthorp Inn and Washington on the Brazos.

1) Live music at various venues both Friday and Saturday nights. As well, the first concerts of this year's Music Festival at Round Top Festival Institute is this Saturday.

2) Live theatre at Unity Theatre in Downtown Brenham - "Deathtrap" is a great mystery and this is the last weekend to see it!

3) Carnival at the Dog Park on Saturday will delight the whole family. Leash up your dogs and bring them to the dog park for a full day of fun.

4) Farmers Market and Trade Days in Burton - support your local farmer and artisan and find new-to-you treasures! Saturday 9-3.

5) Leftovers Antiques is having a BIG Summer Event - buy one, get one half off sale, $500 gift card drawing, music, food, drinks and more! Sat 10-9 and Sun 10-6.
